Abstract

This paper describes a utility to allow automatic population of SharePoint environments with large data sets and flexible topographies across all SharePoint lists and content types. The utility is capable of populating SharePoint with random or user-specified data with time and user complexities. It uses a specific XML-based input and a method to populate SharePoint data which allows support of all default as well as user-customized lists and content types in SharePoint.

Problem Statement

To effectively test SharePoint deployments and/or applications, rapid generation of random and scalable data is required. Test data should contain all types of SharePoint sites, libraries and lists, including permutations and combinations regarding Content Approval, Versions, Check outs, Attachments, etc. Test data should also be created at different points in time by different users and have varied permissions. Manual generation of SharePoint topographies with content is painstaking and time-consuming.
