Method for Review Comparison

It is essential for a business owner to know what people think of their competitors. Managers of restaurants closely watch review sites and monitor what people think of the businesses with which they are directly competing. The same is true of merchants selling through web-based services. It is essential to know what customers think of your service and prices in relation to your competitors. Unfortunately, directly monitoring this is both tedious and error prone.

Many sites provide product comparisons and business reviews through star ratings or manual comparisons, but none allow for algorithmic comparison between merchants.

The proposed method allows either businesses or consumers to easily compare and contrast businesses and items through analysis of the text of reviews that users post for these items.

Unique aspects of this disclosure:

• Ability to determine watchlists of competitor products and businesses

• Ability to algorithmically extract the significant portions of user reviews

• Ability to visually make the contents of the analysis to the user in an easily digestible manner

The invention functions by allowing a user (i.e., either a consumer or a business owner) to define an offering (i.e., product or business) that they wish to analyze (offering A), and define a list of competitor offerings that they wish to analyze in comparison with their own offering (offerings B, C, and D).
