Method and System for Allowing Users to Control Sharing of Click Information in a Social Network

Disclosed is a method and system which allows users to permit or negate tracking of click information such as, but not limited to, click count on web-pages.

In a scenario, a user can select one of a permit or a negate option on a web-page to enable tracking or non-tracking of the click information. If the user permits tracking of the click information, the method starts tracking the time the user spends on the website. In a scenario, the method enables tracking of the time spent by the user on a website after clicking on a link to the website. Alternately, the method enables tracking of the time spent by the user on the content retrieved after clicking on the link. In accordance with the scenario, when the user clicks the link, the time the user spends on the website is checked against a duration threshold. The method also allows the user to set the duration threshold using browser settings. Alternately, the duration threshold is determined by the website automatically. When the content is retrieved after the user clicks on the link, the content retrieved is checked against a content threshold. The content threshold can be established at the website.
