Disclosed is a method and system for locating a vehicle using Bluetooth*. The method and system utilizes a location sensing device such as a Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled smart phone of a user of the vehicle for locating the vehicle.

In a scenario, the location sensing device is Bluetooth enabled. Further, the location sensing device is paired with an accessory within the vehicle using Bluetooth. The location sensing device can be paired with any accessory within the vehicle such as, but not limited to, a stereo system, a microphone and a vehicle navigation system. The method and system monitors a status of Bluetooth connection between the location sensing device and the accessory. Bluetooth connectivity between two devices depends on the proximity between the two devices. The range within which two devices can establish a Bluetooth connection varies from 5 to 100 meters depending on the Bluetooth capability of the two devices. The Bluetooth connection between two devices terminates when the two devices move out of range.

The method and system determines the location of the vehicle when the Bluetooth connection between the location sensing device and the accessory terminates. When the Bluetooth connection terminates, the location sensing device obtains a GPS coordinate using a built in sensor such as a GPS receiver and marks the obtained GPS coordinate as the location of the vehicle.
