The design of a modern olefins plant includes cryogenic separation techniques to recover the light hydrocarbon products of pyrolysis. Specifically the De- methanizer feed system and Demethanizer involve extensive low temperature energy integration to reduce the energy requirement of separating the methane from the ethylene, ethane and heavier hydrocarbons. This paper will discuss various equipment and processing aspects of such a Demethanizer system.
