ABSTRACT

Increasing sophistication in interactive computing, data base technology and interactive graphics software, together with decreasing hardware costs provide a new, viable tool fo~ engineering design and drafting. The technical feasibi- lity of an integrated engineering design data base is preseted. Practical considerations, however, suggest a less ambitious approach. In this context, the concepts of Local and Global integration are discussed.

The state Of the art in the application of these techniques to engfneering design is examined. A Local integration application in the area of piping is described and the evolution of a Global engineering data base is outlined.
