A Method and System for Managing Files

Disclosed is a method and system for managing files . The method and system enables a user to create a table based on metadata information of different files . Each cell in the table represents the number of files selected by the user and belonging to a particular category such as, but not limited to, text, video, audio, HTML, email and log file. The user can select one or more cells in the table and perform operations such as , but not limited to, delete, archive, backup, open, file and list. In addition, the method and system also enables the user to search files within different categories such as , but not limited to, text, video, audio, HTML, email and log file.

Initially, the method and system extracts metadata information associated with different files. Fig. 1 illustrates the metadata information associated with different files .

In addition to the metadata information , the method and system can also extract keywords from the file and use it as metadata information .

Thereafter, the user creates a table by dragging and dropping one or more required metadata information in an explorer view. The method and system provides a
