Abstract

Side extensions for trucks are used to improve the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle comprising a cabin and a trailer. According to the present invention side extensions adapted to the provision of different widths of trailers are provided. According to preferred embodiments said side extensions are provided in a rubber material and according to the invention such side extensions are provided in combination with a bimetal arrangement which when activated bends and thereby changes the position of a side extension relative to the width of the actual trailer.

SIDE EXTENSION FOR TRUCKS

BACKGROUND ART

Side air deflectors for trucks comprising a cabin and a trailer are arranged on the respective back side of the cabin of the truck to improve the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle. In order to reduce the space between the cabin and the trailer flexible side extensions are attached to the end portion of the side air deflectors facing the trailer. By using such side extensions the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle are further improved. The flexible side extensions are usually provided in a rubber material. A problem is that the width of the trailers may vary which affects the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle during drive.
