Disclosed is a method and system for a protocol which reconciles a mobile shopper with merchandise they wish to purchase. The mobile shopper is flagged if found to be in possession of merchandise not scanned by them and vice versa as they traverse a store egress point.

According to the method and system, a store computer tracks a mobile shopper as they traverse the store, by various mobile device location methods. Tagged merchandise is also tracked within the store via camera, using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), using Electronic article surveillance (EAS) tag sensors or any combination thereof. Accordingly, the store computer is able to associate each mobile shopper with each item they wish to purchase. The store computer also ascertains if each item which had been scanned is physically with the mobile shopper.

In an exemplary embodiment, tagged items which are detected to be moving throughout the store with a particular mobile shopper but have not been scanned are flagged. The items are flagged so that they are reconciled with the mobile device before the exit point of a physical store or a virtual store. A virtual store point is considered to be a point in the virtual store that acts as a security threshold for the mobile shopper to declare all items for purchase.
