A method and system for setting credit limits for online application (app) stores is disclosed.  The method and system enables a user to manage the amount spent on purchasing applications (apps) from the online app store by allowing the user to set soft and hard limits on credit used for purchasing apps from the online app store.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for setting credit limits for online application (app) stores.  The method and system enables users to set one or more limits for usage of credit while purchasing apps from the online app store.

In a scenario, a user is allowed to setup an account with an online app store.  The online app store can be accessed via any computing device such as, but not limited to, laptop, mobile phone, smartphone and personal digital assistant.  The user can store details regarding the mode of payment such as, but not limited to, credit card details, debit card details and gift card details.  The user’s account and credit limits can be set up thereafter.  In accordance with the scenario, the user can set up a currency as a preferred currency to spend for purchasing apps.  Thereafter, the user can set up spending limits.  Purchases made by the user are tracked as purchase value to be compared with the spending limits, wherein the purchase value for a user corresponds to the amount spend for purchasing various apps from the online app store. 

Initially, for every user account, purchase values are maintained as zero.  The purchase values for every user account are incremented after every successful purchase made by the user.  The purchase values can be reset either periodically or conditionally, for example after every credit card payment cycle.  F...
