Email Prioritization Based On Company Directory

Email is a central part of business administration but often it fails to prioritize urgent and relevant emails, even though the organization already has access to large amounts of metadata surrounding each employee. Often, in most development work, communication should be focused primarily between people immediately in the sender's organization, but occasionally a user will communicate (sending many emails) with people in a parallel organization. With a simple prioritization system based only on a user's peers, email from the parallel organization might be overlooked.

Disclosed is a method for using hierarchy information (such as an employee database) for ranking emails sent to an inbox.

In the preferred embodiment, a system is prepopulated with Email Client and Organization data. Using the combination of information based on sent/received email history and Organization hierarchy, data emails can be sorted using the following methods to achieve better workflow by setting the focus on the most important emails.

1. Set priority of email based on proximity with organization. The sender's email can be ranked based on proximity to the user's organization.

Example: Dave and Raj are peers in the organization chart; thus, emails received by either one are ranked very high when sorted. Email sent by Ming will be ranked lower, and email sent by Andy much lower.

2. Set priority of email based on proximity to people with whom the user has recently corresponded
