Disclosed is a method for visually representing a group of contacts associated with a user in a social network, wherein a visual representation of a contact belonging to the group of contacts is based on a ranking of the contact. The ranking of the contact is based on one or more metrics associated with the contact, such as, but not limited to, activity level, frequency of interaction with the user, frequency of interaction with other users, number of posts, number of customers and number of clients. The one or more metrics may also be specific to the group of contacts. For example, in case the group is an educational group, the one or more may be, but are not limited to, education level, recent completed subjects and number of mentees. The social network may be a social network such as, but not limited to, a corporate network, a team network, an educational group, a special interests network and a book club.

In an embodiment, the method for visually representing the ranking may involve a gradation of a display attribute associated with an image representing the contact based on the ranking of the contact. For instance, the display attribute associated with the image may be an attribute such as, but not limited to, color, size and position of the image. Further, the method may also enable the user to select one or more metrics for the ranking. In an instance, the user may be presented with one or more metrics belonging to a GUI based on an action such as, but not limited, to a right click against the group of the contacts.
