Abstract

A method and system for generating selective and visibly personalized advertisements is disclosed.  The method and system provides users the flexibility to decide the extent and level of personalization in the advertisement delivered to them while providing an indication of the personalization in the advertisements.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for generating selective and visibly personalized advertisements for users.  The method and system provides users the control to determine the level of personalization of advertisements delivered to them on websites.  The method and system thus aims at generating more meaningful advertisements for the users and thereby increasing the time users spend on the website.

In a scenario, the method and system allows users to select from a plurality of options to specify a desired level of personalization in advertisements delivered to them.  For example, the users may be given four levels of personalization as follows:

 

  • Full such that users would only experience personalized advertisements.
  • Moderate such that users would experience a mix of personalized and editorially programmed advertisement campaigns.
  • Friends such that users would experience advertisements personalized based on the activity of the users’ friends in any network online.
  • Off such that users would experience only editorial campaign advertisements (editorially programmed).

Additionally, advertisements delivered to the user are provided with an indication denoting that the advertisements have been personalized as specified by the users.
