Environmental info includes altitude, ambient sensors and corrosion sensor data. In a data center, some servers (especially mid and high end) have appropriate sensors to capture environmental information and store it as part of its error logs. However, there could be several low end servers or older generation servers that do not have the hardware support or capability to capture the environmental info. This creates a scenario where there is lack of information to correlate and analyze errors arising out of the servers where the environmental info could not be captured. Typically, servers are connected to management modules to which the errors are reported.

Proposed is a methodology where the systems management module captures the environmental info from co-located servers and appends it to the error logs generated from servers not capable of providing this info. The environmental info may vary depending upon where the server (from which the environmental info) is located in the datacenter. Also some of the data (for eg., corrosion sensor readings) may vary depending upon the age of the server in the datacenter., In order to address these issues, the systems management module will identify a server that is geographically closer and whose age is closer to the server which does not have the capability to capture the info.
