Abstract

A range shifter is a hand controlled lever arrangement used for varying the speed range of transmission. In a typical work machine like a backhoe loader, the range shifter is located on the left hand side of the seat when the machine is in travel mode. The proposed design is aimed at changing the location of the range shifter lever from the left hand side to the right hand side so that the lever does not interfere with the rotation or swiveling action of the seat. The proposed design also ensures that the change in position of the lever does not call for any changes in the transmission casing.

Description & working of the invention

In a typical backhoe loader, the loading bucket is located on the front side of the traveling direction of the work vehicle and the digging hoe is arranged on the rear side of the work vehicle. The operating levers for actuating and controlling the backhoe lies on the rear side of the operator station there by enabling the operator to have a correct line of sight while operating the backhoe. In order to access the backhoe operating levers, the operator seat needs to be repositioned to the side where it is convenient for the operator to ergonomically operate the tool besides being able to visualize the position and movement of the tool.

The earlier method of repositioning the seat from the front to the rear side, involves a clam-shell arrangement by means of which the seat can be flipped over. In a flip over or clam-shell arrangement the seating portion and the back resting portion rotates over a horizontal axis by an angle of 90 degrees there by interchanging the roles or utilities of each of these portions. The flip over arrangement doesn't in any way interfere with any of the levers...
