A method and system is disclosed which monitors a transient workload in an Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and forecasts time periods of low efficiency in utilization of administration manpower and drawbacks in Service Level Agreements (SLA). Disclosed is a method and system which monitors a transient workload in an Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and forecasts time periods of low efficiency in utilization of administrative manpower and drawbacks in drafting Service Level Agreements (SLA). This information is used to negotiate and set the price of new service requests.

Figure 1 illustrates the workflow for an implementation of the method and system which includes two major components, namely a Workload Monitoring and Forecasting Engine and a Dynamic Pricing Account Profiler.

Figure 2 illustrates the Workload Monitoring and Forecasting Engine, in accordance with the method and system.

In accordance with the method and system, the workload monitoring and forecasting engine monitors historical data regarding the workload and their service rates, estimates the capacity and capabilities of the IT workload, and makes a forecast for the service rates and capabilities to meet service request targets.

Further, the workload monitoring and forecasting engine manages operation metrics for each group of services provided. The allocation of service groups is optimized dynamically. The Dispatch Decision Engine is supported in its decision making tasks by the workload monitoring and forecasting engine.

Additionally, the workload monitoring and forecasting engine provides key account operation performance metrics such as SLA attainment, historical operation costs and capabilities to name a few as well as provides probability data for future attainment to the Dynamic Pricing Account Profiler.
