Abstract

A thermostat installation and removal tool is generally T-shaped and includes (1) a hollow engagement tube having a top portion and a bottom portion, (2) a handle disposed near the top portion of the engagement tube and oriented orthogonal to the engagement tube, and (3) a pair of locking tangs disposed adjacent the bottom portion of the engagement tub. To remove a thermostat using the thermostat installation and removal tool, the engagement tube is placed over the thermostat, force is applied to compress the thermostat spring, and the handle is rotated. As the handle is rotated, each of the pair of locking tangs applies a rotational force to one of the feet or slots of the thermostat separating the feet or slots from the thermostat housing. The thermostat installation and removal tool is withdrawn and the thermostat is easily removed. To install a thermostat using the thermostat installation and removal tool, the thermostat is placed into the thermostat housing, the engagement tube is place upon the thermostat, force is applied to the tool to compress the thermostat spring, the handle is rotated causing the tangs to rotate the thermostat feet or slots and lock the feet or slots into the housing, and the tool is removed.

Title of Invention

Thermostat Installation and Removal Tool

Description of Invention

A thermostat installation and removal tool facilitates easy and safe installation and removal of a certain types of vehicle thermostats from vehicle thermostat housings. Some vehicle thermostats include two feet or slots near the bottom thereof that secure the installed thermostat to the thermostat housing. It can be difficult to install or remove these types of thermostats.
