When a user updates a status update on a social networking website, several audiences are addressed. One audience
is the user's circle of friends or followers. However, another audience is comprised of machines performing data analytics on the user's updates. One common analytic is sentiment analysis that can provide a metric, for example, of how positive or negative some text is about its subject. Because important decisions can be made based on a user's social network stream, it often behooves the user to project the right image.

While a user can read the outgoing post to make sure it is projecting the desired image, a user cannot know with 100% certainty how a machine interprets the same post. A machine can misinterpret a post from what a user intended or what

is usually meant by the post.

The pre-tweet analyzer is a novel solution that performs sentiment analysis on a tweet (i.e., a post in a social network) and displays the results in real-time to the user before it is sent or posted. This allows the user to create a message that is likely to be properly interpreted by both humans and machines. The analyzer is configurable to include multiple analysis engines so users can see how 1..n engines interpret the tweets.

To implement the pre-tweet analyzer in a preferred embodiment:
