Abstract

A method and system for rendering images taken from the same location/angle in a virtual view on a mobile device is disclosed. The method and system automatically shows images taken from the same location/angle to a user, when the user looks into a “viewfinder” on the mobile device by utilizing components of the mobile device such as, but not limited to, the built-in camera, Global Positioning System (GPS), compass and accelerometers. The images taken from the same location/angle can be identified from one or more online sources such as online photo sharing sites.

Abstract

A method and system for rendering images taken from the same location/angle in a virtual view on a mobile device is disclosed.  The method and system automatically shows images taken from the same location/angle to a user, when the user looks into a “viewfinder” on the mobile device by utilizing components of the mobile device such as, but not limited to, the built-in camera, Global Positioning System (GPS), compass and accelerometers.  The images taken from the same location/angle can be identified from one or more online sources such as online photo sharing sites.

Disclosed is a method and system for rendering images taken from the same location/angle (hereinafter referred to as ‘spot’) in a virtual view on a mobile device. 

The method and system provides a mobile application for rendering the images taken from the same spot.  The mobile application utilizes components of the mobile device such as, but not limited to, built-in camera, Global Positioning System (GPS), compass and accelerometers for identifying and rendering images taken from the same spot.  The mobile application utilizes the information obtained from the components such as, GPS data, compass information etc., to find similar images taken from the same spot from one or more online sources such as, but not limited to, public/private photo galleries.
