In order to prevent hung items from becoming tangled or wrinkled in a shopping cart, a system is needed that allows a shopper to hang such merchandise (e.g., clothing) on the cart. This also leaves room for more bulky items in the basket of the cart. In addition, a designated place on which to hang reusable shopping bags provides better convenience to the shopper.

The invention is a method and apparatus for attaching hanging items to be purchased, reusable shopping bags, etc. to a shopping cart.

This invention involves a hook assembly, comprised of a base comprised of metal, plastic, or other material, and one or more pole assemblies, each with a hook, made of metal plastic or other material, attached to the base. The base is rectangular. The mounting pole is a telescoping design with twist lock. This design allows the user to adjust the height of the hook, while still allowing the shopping carts to be nested for storage. The hook design accommodates merchandise on hangers, reusable shopping bags, purses, etc. and twists along the pole so that it can be positioned perpendicular to the side of the cart, at a 90- degree angle, etc.

The assembly can be mounted to the front, back or side of the cart, and mounted either inside the cart or on the outside of the cart. The assembly has multiple mounting points, such that it can be mounted to a variety of existing shopping cart designs. For ease of install...
