Abstract

This publication describes providing, through cluster server software, a scalable, plug and play agent solution which can be customized as per need and changing infrastructure. The cluster server software may act as single interface for application manageability without the need for monitoring. This solution would also reduce the footprint of running agents.

High Availability Solution to Intelligently Operate and Manage Application and System Resources

Problem Statement

Customers of cluster server software, such as Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) high availability cluster software, often inquire how to customize the operations that may be performed on a particular resource. For example, with certain applications, customers do not want the software to start or stop and for other applications, the customers want the software to start or stop but have no monitoring. To cater to these requirements at present, the software administrator may create a new agent and ship it in the next release. This approach increases the footprint of running agents on the system. In addition, customer use cases cannot be addressed immediately. Another issue is how to reduce consumption of system resources and footprint of running agents on the machine, especially with the creation of the new agents described...
