Abstract

This idea proposes the introduction of a User Interface (UI) feature to fully automate the task of classifying, sorting, and storing different pages/sections of a document (or documents) into separate folders. The user would identify the processing to be completed through simple interaction with a UI. Benefits of the idea include a simple, intuitive method for an end-user to automatically organize documents into a folder hierarchy.

This idea proposes the introduction of a User Interface (UI) feature to fully automate the task of classifying, sorting, and storing different pages/sections of a document (or documents) into separate folders.  The user would identify the processing to be completed through simple interaction with a UI.  Benefits of the idea include a simple, intuitive method for an end-user to automatically organize documents into a folder hierarchy. 

Scanning huge sets of documents and later sorting them out for a more organized storage can be quite a cumbersome task. Folder naming is usually a  time consuming manual process.  This idea discloses the introduction of a UI feature to make the task of classifying and storing different pages/sections of a document in separate folders more organized and automated. 

The idea provides a method for sorting huge sets of documents making use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.   The proposal allows the user to identify keywords on the UI that will be utilized in the process. Based on those keywords, the document is split into different sets and stored in separate folders/sub folders.

The proposal could have great benefit in form processing for the banking sector, mortgage applications, real estate, and other industries by providing a more organized document storage system.  The idea could be implemented on any Multifunctional Device (MFD), Imaging software system, or Document Management system.

The current idea proposes a method to sort documents based on certain classifiers/keywords and then store them in separate folders for better document management and easier later retrieval.  Figure 1 shows a sample UI feature which prompts the user to enter keywords.

In this example, keywords entered are names. This is an example of a loan application. In another example, the keywords could be addresses of different houses in the case of a real estate application.
