Capturing notes from a messaging session

When collaborating with others using an messaging application, one often needs to retain important information shared via the chat session. Most messaging applications will allow one to save transcripts and/or search chat history but one can not create a file within the application which includes selectively added portions from chat sessions.

Known solutions to this problem include:
Use any file editing application such as Lotus* Symphony* documents, Microsoft** Word, etc.

The proposed solution allows a user to create and/or edit a file from within the messaging application that will store the user(s)'s identification information, date, and timestamp from the messaging application (including mobile devices which uses SMS and MMS). When using a mobile device, these notes can be stored in a new field within the contact(s).

The core idea of this invention is to allow a user to save pertinent information from an messaging exchange for easy access. This application is enabled when the user identifies the information to be stored within the messaging note pad platform which includes the messaging sender's identification information, data and timestamp from the messaging exchange. The selected data from the message can be transferred and stored by way of a couple of options (selecting either the content to add into the messaging note OR by selecting one or more users).

Below is the flow of the said invention:

1: Darryl sends an instant message to Michelle.

2: Michelle understands that the information will remain in her chat history. Since she has numerous instant messages with Darryl within her chat history, she elects to add to her IM notepad for quick reference. Otherwise, it would take her longer to find the information at a later time.
