The present invention proposes a fiber glass tub to increase interior space of a nacelle of a wind turbine. The fiber glass tub may be provided in one or more slide-in wall sections provided in the wind turbine nacelle. The one or more wall sections increase interior space of the wind turbine nacelle without increasing width of the nacelle and cost of shipping.
The present invention relates generally to a wind turbine and more particularly to an expandable nacelle for the wind turbine.
A nacelle is a cover for housing a generator component in the wind turbine. The generator component includes a generator, a gearbox, a drive train and a brake assembly. Conventional wind turbine nacelles do not provide enough space between the generator and an electrical control cabinet. However, an optimum distance between the generator and the electrical control cabinet is required in accordance to national electric code and international electro technical commission (IEC). Further, size of the wind turbine nacelle is constrained by shipping limitations.
A conventional technique includes wide nacelle to maintain distance between the generator and an electrical control cabinet for electrical safety requirement. However, shipping such wide nacelles is a challenge.
It would be desirable to have an improved technique to maintain optimum electrical safety requirement which does not pose a shipping challenge.
