Disclosed is a closed circuit television system where the camera has the ability to tilt, pan and zoom and the viewable monitor has a sensor that detects general movement of the individual. When the individual leans a certain direction (left, right, up down, in or out), the connected camera will move accordingly to give the person a better view.

Remote Camera Controls Via Body Motion

Using live feed camera connections viewed on a monitor today has certain limitations. Controlling a remote camera is restricted to using manual controls (buttons, knobs, etc). A method doesn't exist to easily control the camera hands-free.

When watching a closed circuit feed of video, a user can use the physical position of the individual's head in relation to the monitor to determine some of the controls of the camera. So, if the viewer were to lean left, the camera would pan to the right and vice versa. This could also be used by moving backwards and forwards to control zoom.

In a basic example of a video monitoring setup, there is a remote camera that has the capability of remotely controlling pan, tilt and zoom. There is also an individual sitting in front of a video monitor. Additionally, there is a sensor fixed to the video monitor that senses the general

position of the individual sitting in front of it. So, if the system is turned on, the person sees the video being captured on the remote camera on the video monitor sitting directly in front of them. If the person were to lean to the left, the sensor on the video monitor would detect this and consequently send a signal to the camera to pan to the right. The same goes for leaning right and making the camera pan to the left. This idea would also apply to moving the camera up and down. This example will be called "Window Mode" since it replicates looking through a traditional window.
