The present invention proposes a technique that provides a twistable fixture device for transport of rotor blades. The technique allows a user to move rotor blade into different angle positions according to specific requirements. During the multi modal transport phase from one location to another, the rotor blade is locked in a horizontal position within a transport fixture. Prior to installation phase, the rotor blade is moved into a vertical position by hydraulic means. The hydraulic means is implemented into a blade root fixture.
The present invention relates generally to rotor blades of a wind turbine, and more particularly to a fixture device for transportation of rotor blades of the wind turbine.
Generally, length, width, curvature and weight of wind turbine blades varies, depending on the size of the wind turbine, anticipated wind speeds and other design considerations. The wind turbine industry is currently moving into transport of longer blades which provides advantage for onshore wind turbine projects.
Further, it is required to install rotor blades in a vertical position. Whilst engineering requirement for transport of rotor blades from one place to another is a horizontal position of rotor blades.
A conventional technique includes a system for arranging wind turbine blades for transport and/or storage. The system includes two root cradles and two tip cradles for the arrangement. One of the tip cradle is proximate to a root cradle such that the tip cradle is angled approximately 30 to 60 degrees with respect to a horizontal line. The technique includes transferring a wind turbine blade to one of the root cradle and another blade to the second root cradle. The technique further includes rotating a portion of one of the wind turbine blades about a portion of the second wind turbine blade.
However, the conventional technique does not provide an effective means for transportation of longer rotor blades.
Therefore, there is a need in the art for a technique that provides an efficient and cost effective transport fixture for transportation of rotor blades.
