Method and System for Promoting System Stability by Adaptive Re -rendering of System Profile Data

In management applications of systems, computing assets being managed are profiled by either hardware type, software stack or some other attributes. Profiles are used to target systems for specific management actions such as software or firmware updates. Many such updates are based only on compliance rules that install all applicable packages which are deemed to be required by the compliance logic based on a system profile. In some case, installation of the packages can cause instability and faults in the system.

Disclosed is a method and system for promoting system stability by adaptive re-rendering of system profile data. The method and system correlates system profiles to known results of system updates and infers potential harmful impacts of the system updates. The potential harmful impacts are inferred via crowd-sourcing from peer systems. The method and system takes evasive actions to avoid a known harmful update by dynamically altering the system attributes. The system attributes are dynamically altered in order to fail targeted profile criteria for promoting stability. Further, the method and system can dynamically alter rules of the update in management software to prevent any change in a configuration of the system.

The method and system includes a system management application that enforces a compliance based system updates for managed systems. A diagnostic utility resides on the managed systems which respond to requests from the system management application for profile data of systems. The diagnostic utility is programmed to query a requesting management application for any intended use of the profile data. Further, the diagnostic utility also includes the ability to understand system update package levels. Thereafter, the diagnostic u...
