As more and more knowledge repositories coming out on internet, how to help user fetch the target resource has become one great challenge especially for the limit network bandwidth and huger size of various resources.

Due to the limited disk size, we have to use zip orother compress tool to reduce each resource's size. For XML or other markup language collections, it is very common to be present in zip format. It saves disk size, but at the same time, cost much more time for user to fetch the needed resource especially on the internet. It has become one conflict between the user and resource provider.

So we could say it has become a significant challenge to design a method which not only make the size of each resource small but also provide a rapid and convenient retrieving approach.

The invention offers a new solution to solve the problems mentioned above. It provides a way to keep the resource in small size and increase the speed to transfer the target resource on internet. In this invention, resources such as XML collections stored on disk in compressed format, but when user request one target resource, the agent on the server side will parse and locate automatically according to the request and fetch the target directly in the compressed package. What's more, advanced features of XML collections such as anchor and link reference, can be better supported in great efficiency.

1) It provides an easy way to retrieve compressed file entries and file mapping relationships.


2) It saves the time and effort to transport the huge compressed package from remote server and uncompress it locally repetitively.
