Smarter Caller ID
When receiving a phone call, the caller identification (ID) is limited to the phone number and name (if it is in the user's current contact list). There is no ability to access value-add information about the caller and take actions based on the information.
The novel contribution is a system to facilitate a smarter caller ID feature. The system utilizes rules to search Internet databases, applications, etc. to obtain value-added information about the caller for the user. The system then uses this information to create more information (i.e., degrees of separation) about the caller. The device utilizes user-established rules to take action upon the incoming call or display of call (i.e. degrees of separation necessary to answer or ignore call; display of red, yellow, or green as indicators). The user can take action through the Internet and/or the device (e.g., "send friend request", "follow", add to "do not answer" or "block call" list). The user can also choose a preferred feed upon completing the call, such as smart technologies used by automobiles, appliances, home devices, etc.
The system provides unique information about callers in real time. The system is comprised of methods to:
• Disposition a call
• Take incoming phone numbers and match with name and other information commonly available
• Display different information based on user rules and preferences
• Retrieve (i.e., Cloud) and display real time information during the call...
