Social Media Activity Based Relevancy And Relevancy Aging Adjustment

Usually a post in a social networking website is ranked based on social media activities resulted from the post on the social networking website. The social media activities may include to clicks, and re-tweets. Further, ranking/popularity of a post gradually decreases back to pre-post ranking in proportion to decrease in the social media activities resulted from the post. However, even when the social media activity is stopped, the ranking/popularity of the post should not be stopped, because not every post published in the social networking website results in same relevancy cycle, i.e. same social media activity. Hence, there is a need to age the relevancy and adjust the ranking/popularity of the post.

Disclosed herein is a method and system for evaluating ranking/popularity of a post based on various parameters. The parameters include social media activities resulted from the post and consistency of social media activities resulted from the post. Based on the consistency of the social media activities, the system disclosed herein appropriately ages / adjusts the previous increase in the ranking/popularity of the post. The system can also use consistency to increase relevancy factor in addition to aging.

In one embodiment, a user publishes an earlier post again. This is usually known as reposting. Since it's a repost, social media activities resulted from the repost may not be as prominent as they would be for a new post. The disclosed method and system evaluates an effective ranking/popularity of the repost by comparing the social media activities resulted from the earlier post to the social media activities resulted from reposting the same post by the same user. The user is provided with an option to set/configure a predefined threshold for change in activity resulted from the repost to the earlier post. Then, the method and system adjusts/ages the ranking/popularity of the repost in proportion to how much above/ below is the change in the social media activity when compared to the predefined threshold.
