Transforming A Domain Specific Text Into A Simplified Text

A method and system is herein disclosed for transforming a domain specific text into a simplified text. The method and system uses text analytics and domain specific dictionaries such as Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA) for transforming the domain specific text into the simplified text.

Initially, a document is entered into the system. In an embodiment of the present method, text analytics such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), are used to analyze the document and identify the domain specific terms in the document using a dictionary. The method and system determines the domain of the document based on the identified domain specific terms. After determining the domain, NLP is used along

with domain specific parsing rules and dictionaries to analyze the domain specific

terms. Thereafter, the domain specific terms are converted into their corresponding simplified terms. Finally, an output is computed for the document which comprises of the simplified terms and is then displayed to a user.

In an exemplary embodiment of the present method and system, the document is a diagnosis report of a doctor, wherein an illness of a patient is described. The document includes medical terms which are difficult for the patient or relatives of the patient to understand.
