Abstract

Most websites or systems which send automated emails to registered or unregistered users of those sites provide an unsubscribe function. In fact, that function must be provided under the EU's Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive 2003. However, many times the unsubscribe feature does not work either due to poor implementation on behalf of the sending site or intentionally because the website wishes to continue sending spam. Something is required to ensure a user will no longer receive emails when they wish to unsubscribe, regardless of implementation at the sender. The solution to this problem is to integrate an email unsubscribe function with email spam filter such that unsubscribing will automatically add a rule to the spam filter to block emails from the target site
