Abstract

A framework for self-monitoring and recovery of clusters by utilizing Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) process is disclosed.  The framework utilizes ETL for enabling a cluster to self-monitor and perform a set of pre-defined actions for its recovery from a problem state.

Description

Disclosed is a framework for self-monitoring and automatic recovery of clusters by utilizing Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) process.

 

The framework is executed independently on each node of the cluster.  It follows a predefined alert catalog and performs recovery operations when an alert condition is met.

The framework provides a meta-process model, which is implemented by using a meta-program.  The framework utilizes monitoring agents for performing actions such as, but not limited to, rectifying an error condition.  For example, for a crashed activemq application, extractor reports the crashing of activemq service along with its probable reason for crashing.  The transformation job will clean up any stale state and log files, and restart a service to fix the error condition.

The process of ETL is implemented based on a role and purpose of a node in the cluster.  The recovery implementation code is deployed along with the application and continues to recover the node under alert conditions.
