Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for providing a status indicator to indicate working status of one or more servers in a rack. The system includes Light Emitting Diode (LED) status indicator for displaying present working status of the one or more servers in the rack. Disclosed is a method and system for providing a status indicator to indicate working status of one or more servers in a rack. The system includes a Light Emitting Diode (LED) status indicator for displaying present working status of the one or more servers in the rack. The LED status indicator is placed on an outer portion of the rack.

In accordance with the method and system, one or more Universal Serial Bus (USB) status keys are inserted in one or more USB^ ports of one or more servers of the rack as illustrated in the Figure.

The one or more USB^ status keys are installed on the rack. The one or more USB^ status keys include a wireless transceiver to transmit and receive information such as status of servers inside the rack. In an embodiment, the one or more USB^ status keys may transmit status of the one or more servers in the rack online to an interface. The wireless transceiver may transmit and receive information wirelessly using one or more of, but not limited to, Bluetooth*, wi-fi+, zig-bee** and radio. Additionally, the one or more USB^ status keys may include a small battery or capacitor to send a status signal to an LED status indicator which is placed on an outer portion of the rack. Further, the one or more USB^ status keys include a local LED indicator. Each USB^ status key of the one or more USB^ status keys includes a unique address identifier to distinguish one USB^ status key from the other.
