Disclosed is a method and system which enables retailers to dynamically build store maps and locate inventory based on a combination of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID)/ Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and presence zones. The method and system utilizes a RFID/NFC device as a compass and a presence zone as a map beacon.

The method and system disclosed herein can be implemented as a mobile application for a mobile device with RFID reader capabilities such as, but not limited to, a smart phone, and a tablet. The mobile application can be used by a retail store associate to obtain the layout of the store. The store associate uses the mobile application to detect RFID tags on one or more products and accumulate metadata about the one or more products. The mobile application also obtains location information of the one or more products using one or more presence zone sensors. Thereafter, the mobile application sends the product metadata and presence zone data to a mapping system over a

wireless network. Subsequently, by utilizing data from the mapping system a dynamic product map for the retail store is built, which can be utilized by the store associate

and/or an authorized user.
