Mobile Web Pattern Bundle Format

Mobile web patterns are becoming increasingly important in software application development environments. These patterns are used to guide the construction of mobile web applications through reusable graphical templates. A number of online

and hardcopy resources are available that provide information about mobile web patterns. These resources, however, treat patterns rather informally, presenting the patterns as basic screen examples. In order to enable organizations to effectively create, exchange, and publish mobile web patterns, a standardized format needs to be established.

The novel contribution is a standard format for mobile web patterns that makes it possible to create, export, and import the patterns both from and into different development environments.

A mobile web pattern bundle is a self-contained artifact that incorporates all the necessary resources to apply a template into a mobile web application. These resources are organized in a set of hierarchically sorted directories, and a metadata file is used to describe the artifact utilizing a set of key-values. (Table 1) (Note:
