Billboards along the road advertising entertainment venues and shopping experiences provide a traveler with information about the existence and location of said venues, but do not always provide information about hours of operation or special events (e.g., large sales or promotions). This information would be helpful to a tourist or other traveler.

A mechanism is needed that provides the consumer/user with additional information about a venue's (e.g., shopping center, store, entertainment complex, etc.) operation.

The core idea is to provide visual indicators (e.g., symbols, colors, etc.) on the advertisement boards displayed at the entrance of a given venue that provide information about whether the venue is open for business, having a sale and at what level, current volume of business, etc. For example, for a shopping complex with multiple stores, the board indicates which stores are open, which are having promotional events, the expected wait time at a store, etc. These visual indicators save the consumers' time as it helps consumers determine whether to visit a particular venue.

Implementation of the informational advertisement board assumes that all participating venues (retail or other) have a mechanism to update the status to a central server.
