Abstract

Disclosed is a design to make the body-worn charger for Active Implantable Medical Devices (AIMDs) more comfortable and less cumbersome for users.  The design provides a means to make the charger’s cable coil retractable.

Problem Addressed 

The existing chargers for Active Implantable Medical Devices (AIMDs) have similar configurations, comprised of a battery pack, which is worn on the person’s body, a cable, and a coil.  These chargers and cords are cumbersome and difficult to carry.

A design is needed to make AIMDs more comfortable and less cumbersome for users.

Novelty Statement

The solution is to provide a means to make a retractable AIMD charger cable.  The novel design places a wheel and spring mechanism, which can roll up the coil cable, inside the pack worn on the person.  The design also includes a magnet or some other mechanical construct to provide a means of securing the coil to the pack.

Alternatively, the cable can be wound around the battery and then affixed to the top of the battery.
