A method and system for comparing and analyzing data obtained from noisy environments is disclosed.  

Description

Data collected from the internet may be affected by unforeseeable factors (noise) such as, but not limited to, queuing effects, network segment utilizations, routing changes, number of hops and time of the day.

Disclosed is a method and system for comparing and analyzing data obtained from noisy environments.  The method calibrates the environment from which data is extracted with a known standard to mitigate the effect of noise.

Calibration is a set of operations that establish the relationship between the values of quantities indicated by a measuring system and the corresponding values realized by standards, under specified conditions.  The calibration may be followed by an adjustment process.  Adjustment is a process of altering the measurement of an instrument to ensure that the values are correct within specified limits.  Calibration allows noise from uncontrolled factors to be adjusted in experimental data.

A system under test (SUT) that tests a workload may contain a plurality of systems.  Out of the plurality of systems some may be reserved for a current test.  The rest of the plurality of systems may be set aside for calibration. The test and calibration systems have identical characteristics.  For example, the test and calibration system may give the same processor architecture, processor frequency, RAM size, Network Interface Cards, Operating System and software patches.  Resource sharing between the test and calibration systems is monitored so that the measurements...
