Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for automatically detecting one or more distress situations using a communication device having one or more sensors. In response to detecting the one or more distress situations based on monitoring the one or more sensors, the method and system sends one or more distress signals from the communication device.

Disclosed is a method and system for automatically detecting one or more distress situations using a communication device such as, but not limited to, a phone, a smart phone and mobile handsets. The one or more distress situations can be emergency situations such as a person experiencing a stroke, or unconsciousness. The communication device can be equipped with one or more sensors such as, but not limited to, a motion sensor, an impact sensor and a thermal sensor. Any other suitable

sensor of the communication device can also be used for detecting the one or more distress situations. The method and system monitors the one or more sensors and checks a condition associated with one or more values obtained from the one or more sensors. If the condition is met, the method and system initiates an action from the communication device such as, but not limited to, calling 911, sending one or more text messages and sending out one or more distress signals.

In an embodiment of the present invention, a phone is equipped with one or more impact sensors. When the phone falls to a surface, the method and system registers/detects a certain pressure or impact on the phone via the one or more impact sensors. The method and system, then, determines if the pressure or impact registered has met a preset condition associated with the one or more impact sensors.
