Title

Battery door on/off switch

Abstract

Disclosed is a swing-out design for a battery door on a hearing device that allows a user to use a simple push-motion to turn the device on and off.  When the battery door is fully closed, the device is on; when the door is partially open, the device is off.

Problem Addressed

Without the addition of an extra button or switch, a mechanism is needed that allows the user to easily turn a hearing device on and off.

Novelty Statement

The novel contribution is a swing-out design for the battery door.  This design includes a feature that offers two positions: on (fully closed) and off (partly open).  Closing the battery door activates the device, and instead of pulling the battery door on the same side of the hinge as closing, the user pushes on the other side to open.  Pushing on the opposite side of the hinge provides a controlled and simple action to turn the device off.

Description (Components, Process)

Advantages

This is an easy and intuitive on/off switch that is integrated into the battery door.  It is easier to push a button than to find a small knob to pull the battery door open.  Using a distinct off position is easier with a push movement than with a pull movement.
