Abstract

This disclosure enables the automatic setup (installation, configuration, and verification) of clustered middleware system including IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) for distributed computing nodes. This allows parameter sheets in Microsoft Excel format as input for automatic configuration and setups multiple clustered system instances using a single template (i.e. Virtual System Pattern used with IBM PureApplication System and so on.). This disclosure enables the automatic setup (installation, configuration, and verification) of clustered middleware system including IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) for distributed computing nodes. This disclosure takes two solutions to resolve issues. One is a clustered system template, e.g. "Virtual System Pattern" used with IBM PureApplication System (PureApp) and so on, and another is an automatic configuration tool, e.g. "WAS/IHS Tool" which is the tooling solution of IBM asset "WAS/IHS Patterned Asset". This disclosure describes integrated solution with Virtual System Pattern and WAS/IHS Tool which achieves automatic installation, configuration, and verification. The integrated solution resolves issues in the following ways.

Installation, configuration, and configuration verification of clustered software.

Clustered middleware and operating system are automatically installed and configured as cluster in Virtual System Pattern fashion using PureApp.

Parameter sheets in Excel format and shell scripts of WAS/IHS tool automatically configures clustered middleware (WAS/IHS), then.

After automatic configuration, WAS/IHS Tool generates parameter sheets from configured middleware systems and compared them with original parameter sheets used for automatic configuration. This is the configuration verification step.

Ease of use.

Deployers can start installation in one-click action from the GUI console of products which support Virtual System Pattern, including PureApp.

WAS/IHS Tool allows parameter sheets in Excel format for automatic configuration input. WAS/IHS Tool and its parameter sheet supports over 1000 configuration parameters and users don't need to develop additional scripts for configuration.
