Abstract

Software replication technology for disaster recovery enable both high level disaster recovery with recovery point objective (RTP) = 0 and continuous operation for planned switch. But software replication technology supports only databases. Files can be recovered with disk mirroring, however it is difficult to synchronize software replication and disk mirroring. This invention provides a mechanism which corrects the gap of recovery point between software replication and disk mirroring and implements total disaster recovery for whole production system including batch processing.

But software replication technology supports only databases. Files can be recovered with disk mirroring, however it is difficult to synchronize software replication and disk mirroring. This invention provides a mechanism which corrects the gap of recovery point between software replication and disk mirroring and implements total disaster recovery for whole production system including batch processing.

The mechanism of the invention corrects the gap of recovery point between software replication and disk mirroring in the disaster recovery system according to the following procedure:


1. Receives disaster notification


2. Inquires database management system about the database recovery point time


3. Instructs the disk mirroring function to perform disk volumes recovery

4. Restarts the job controller, checks registered jobs and re-run all jobs which match the following conditions:
- The job is "database update only"
- The job status is "completed" on the job controller
- The end time of the job on the job controller is later than database recovery point time


5. Re-runs all jobs with the status of "in process" on the job controller
