Check point enabled installation which lets user to gracefully stop InfoSphere Information Server's installation and start at later point of time from the check point at which user opted to exit in the last attempt

Back ground: InfoSphere Information Server suite installation takes considerably longer time to finish successfully. Once installation is triggered user cannot perform any other action other than waiting for finishing the installation successfully. If any case user wants to pause the installation in between, one has to abruptly close the session from where installation has been triggered in which case user does not have any control on which point installation has to be stopped . To restart the installation, user can make use of installation resume feature using old response file, again it is for resuming failed installations which cannot address database corruptions . As of to day there is no way that user can gracefully exit from installation in between and restart from the latest checkpoint at later point of time.

Intent is to facilitate InfoSphere Information Server's user with check point enabled installation in which user has control on installation process before and after installation has been triggered, to stop installation at a specific check point gracefully and restart at later point of time . Below two are the common scenarios that are not being handled efficiently now and but will get great benefit from the proposed solution.

Scenarios 1:Before triggering installation/During requirement checking
Problem: InfoSphere Information Server needs a good set of requirements to be checked before triggering the Installation. Often failing any one of the requirement needs restarting the installation from scratch that demands repetition of same steps to be done again and again.

Existing solution - There is no apparent solution to handle this problem as existing "resume installation feature" of Information Server completely depends up on response file and response file gets generated only after successful completion of requirement check.

Proposed solution: With check point enabled installation user can directly come to the step where he stopped installation in the last attempt using check point log file.So that user does not need to repeat all the steps again till requirement check. they can directly resume installation at requirement check step. This is a very common scenario which will have great benefit from above idea.
