Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for tuning radio stations automatically according to preferences of a user.  The method and system includes a software defined radio (SDR) to monitor content that the user is currently listening.  Thereafter, the system automatically suggests alternate radio stations that are playing content of similar genre. 

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for tuning radio stations automatically according to preferences of a user.  The method and system includes a software defined radio (SDR) to monitor content that the user is currently listening.  Thereafter, the system automatically suggests alternate radio stations that are playing content of similar genre.

In accordance with the method and system, a processor in the SDR monitors and learns about the content that a user usually listens to.  The content may be one or more of, but not limited to, songs, informative programs such as news and weather updates, talk shows.  The processor classifies the content that the user is listening to into categories.  This enables the SDR to identify preferences of the user.  The SDR automatically suggests alternate radio stations based on preferences of the user.  The user may press a button to switch to the alternate radio station or continue listening to the currently played radio station.
