Abstract

EP-99615 and EP-99616 are novel effect pigments composed of perlite flakes, an amorphous alumino-silicate material, coated with a layer of titanium dioxide and/or iron oxides along with a small amount of tin oxide. Depending on the amount of titanium dioxide and iron oxide used, a series of colors can be produced, ranging from a pearlescent white, to a gold, copper, or russet shade. The resulting pigments exhibit appealing chromaticity and sparkle, and provide a novel feel and appearance due to the perlite substrate. These novel effect pigments are suitable for all cosmetic applications, including eye and lip area use. Attached are a number of formulations demonstrating the use of these experimental products. These examples are not meant to be limiting in any way, and one skilled in the art will readily find many other applications and combinations of cosmetic ingredients, colorants, and the above disclosed effect pigments.

I. Thoroughly blend Phase A in appropriate dry blending/dispersing equipment.


II. In a side vessel, add all Phase B ingredients and heat to 60 ± 3°C, stirring until uniform.


III. Spray Phase B into Phase A.


IV. Add Phase C and tumble until uniform.


V. Press.
