Abstract

We are proposing a solution to track customers inside a store accurately by using a unique technique on the "Wi-Fi Sniffer Cleint" which dynamically changes the receive sensitivity levels while sniffing for 802.11 frames from the Wi-Fi devices and while sending the collected data to the Accesspoint in range . Definations: Wi-Fi sniffer client(WSC) : It?s a Wi-Fi client which sniffs 802.11 frames from the Wi-Fi enabled devices and then forwards the information to the Access point. Access point: Access point receives the information from Wi-Fi sniffer client and updates the analytic server, which in turn inform the sales team.

ABSTRACT

Since the ratification of IEEE802.11b standard in 1999, Wireless LAN has become more prevalent. Wireless technology plays an important role in communication and provides the much needed mobility for users. The growth of wireless is so much in past few years that most of the gadgets the user carries are Wifi enabled. The substantial growth of Wifi opened the door to locate the mobile users in the given area.

Growth in Mobile workforce, desire for the constant information and location based advertisement makes locating a particular wifi device essential in many Market sectors. The ability to locate a device is being driven by demand from a variety of sectors such as retailers, Warehouse, Hospitals, hotel chains, to name a few.  In this paper we are providing a solution to locate the Wi-Fi device using 802.11 radios.

PROBLEM

 

The WiFi technology is incorporated in almost every device the user carries. Asset tracking and workforce management has become prevalent in Business, Warehouse and Hospital sector. Locating the Wi-Fi device has become necessary in many marketing verticals. The retails business wants to push coupons and discounts to the customers based on the location of its Users. The Hospital management wants to track asset and workforce management.

Since radio waves travel erratically it is difficult to track the Wi-Fi device accurately. Mobility of the Wi-Fi device makes even harder to find the device in the Real Time.

 

SOLUTION

We are proposing a solution to track   wifi device inside a store or given area accurately by using a unique technique on the Wi-Fi Sniffer Client (WSC) which dynamically changes the receive sensitivity levels while sniffing for 802.11 frames from the Wi-Fi devices and while send the collected data to the Access point in range. WSC is nothing but a Wi-Fi client which sniffs 802.11 frames from the Wi-Fi enabled devices and then forwards the information to the Access point.
