1. ABSTRACT

The technical idea can be used to improve the crash behavior in case of an emergency landing. A support strut attached to the cross beam and the frame of the fuselage shell is hollow and filled with inserts made of metal foam which might have breaking points.


2. DISCLOSURE

The technical idea can be used to improve the crash behavior in case of an emergency landing. A full composite fuselage or fuselage barrel can have a poor crash behavior. Therefore it can be improved by introducing crash elements in the lower section of the fuselage or in the keel panel to fulfill the requirements of crash airworthiness. Such crash elements might occupy space and cause additional assembly work. Examples are shown in US 2009/0206202A1, WO 2010/028956 A2, US 2012/0132745 or WO 2012095300, as well as in International Journal of Protective Structures - Volume 2 · Number 4 · 2011: "Crashworthiness Study on Fuselage Section and Struts under Cabin Floor" by Xue et. Al.

Damage tolerant support struts with improved crash worthiness can be an alternative for crash elements. These support struts can include biomimetic structural concepts.
