ABSTRACT

    Instant Messaging clients are provided with integrated custom dictionaries to add, modify and search group specific meanings to words. The dictionaries can be seamlessly used by everyone in an enterprise or group. Technical/ non-technical jargon can be added and used based on user specific permissions.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

    In enterprises, there is enterprise and/or industry/business specific jargon or terminology often used. The intent behind this is for ease of reference and sometimes confidentiality within the enterprise or group. For example, various names are used for products, projects etc., so that outsiders of the group/enterprise cannot understand what those names mean. These words often cannot be found in any language dictionaries.

    Techniques are presented herein to inform users belonging to a specific group to add, modify and search meanings for their group (or domain) or their enterprise specific words. Group dictionaries are built to make them seamlessly available to all permitted users in the group.

    FIGs. 1-3 below illustrate the basic concepts of this, and in particular how a user on Instant Messaging (IM) gets associated with a custom group, and how a custom meaning can be added and searched.
