Disclosed is a cloud service for protecting data based on a user role and a data type. Here, the user provides a data protection request to the cloud service and the user role includes, but is not limited to, responsibilities and legal requirements. The cloud service utilizes an identity of the user and the user role for assigning services such as, but not limited to, gold, silver and bronze Service Level Agreement (SLA) based data protection. The cloud service initially utilizes the identity of the user to determine a name and the user role. Here, the user role is determined using one of, a data source that maps the identity with the user role and a questionnaire on a set up. Thereafter, the cloud service utilizes knowledge about a tool, an application and a type of data associated with the user role to provide the SLA based data protection.

The cloud service utilizes the knowledge associated with the user role to assign a data protection resource to the data protection request, which satisfies the SLA associated with the user role. Additionally, the cloud service provides protection for a data which is protected by a firewall. Further, the cloud service automatically initiates a service level whenever a new client is added. Furthermore, the cloud service automatically configures services as a part of a standard setup.
